Downing Street,

14 April, 1937.

sir,

I have the honour to refer to my confidential

despatch of the 2nd of Novenber regarding applicatiɔng for

grants to the Carnegie Cornoration.

2. I have decided not to apply on this occnaion to

the Corporation for a grant for the provision of a Public

Library and Museum in place of those formerly housed in the

City Hall, as the large rebuilding programme scheme, of which

the new Library and Museum would form a part, is for the

present in a state of suspense.

3. In view of your confidential telegram No.59, the

scheme for the compilation of a history of Hong Kong will not

be submitted to the President of the Corporation this year.

I shall, however, be prepared to consider the question of its

submission on the next occasion, probably in 1939, and I

should be obliged if you would forward to me in due course

a memorandum containing particulars of the scheme and the

extent of the financial assistance that would be desired.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

huable servant,

GOVERNOR

SIR ANDREW GAL ECOTT, K.C.1.0.,C.B.K.,

etc..

etc..

etc.
